PCKCCjeffsthoughts: Music and Themes of Popular Culture
PCKCCjeffsthoughts: Music and Themes of Popular Culture: "Music is a very powerful medium through which popular culture is conveyed. As such, I feel that a lot of the concepts we hold today from pop..." I agree with this post alot. I think that music does have alot of influence on male/masculinity

The connection between popular music today and men/masculinity has allot in common. For example in allot of music they talk allot about how being a man has to do with being tough. In country music for example allot of songs are about getting in bar fights or going out partian and having all the chicks. In rap music they also talk allot about fighting and who has all the money. I think that music has allot to do with spreading theses ideas cause kids listen to music at a young age so they hear all this stuff about men/masculinity growing up and its around them basically every day.

PCKCC Brittany's Blog: Rap and Country: More similar than different
PCKCC Brittany's Blog: Rap and Country: More similar than different: "Obviously rap and country and very different from each other. Their general fan bases are as far apart as can be, their sound is on opposite..."

There aren't very many similarities between country and hip-hop but there are a few. Country and hip-hop both have die hard fans that only listen to that genre of music. Both types of music also have stereotypes about there listeners like only African Americans listen to hip-hop and only hicks listen to country. Country and hip-hop are also very different. Country is pretty much always about the small town life that allot of Americans can relate to. Hip-hop is about all different kinds of things like killing, drinking, dealing, partian and so on. Another deference between the two is country is said to be allot easier to understand cause they sing slower compared to hip-hop were its usually song allot faster.

I think the media is making us more unhealthy. The reason for this is because before we had TV kids and family when they were bored would go out side or do something that didn't involve staring at a screen for hours. And now when kids are bored most of them watch TV. Which is very lazy and I think one of the reasons why kids these days are overweight. I also think that the media shows to many fast food commercials. Which is an issue cause on TV they show fast food looking so good when its really really bad for you.And when kids see it on TV they want it and they wine to there parents till they get it.

Over the last couple weeks of class i'v realized that theres alot of stuff about masculinity. I'v learned that the reason young men act the way they do is because there born into it by watchin there family and the media. Also that the view of a masculent man is guys are getting bigger and bigger musciles to show here masculinity. I do think that the relationship between violence and masculinity is somthing to worry about because young kids are starting to think that being a man is about how tough and violent you can be.
